Bitcoin long/short FAQ

What is the BTC long/short ratio? It compares how many trader accounts hold a net long Bitcoin futures position with how many hold a net short one. ratio.day shows it as the share of accounts that are long, per exchange.

Is a high BTC long/short ratio bullish? Not by itself. Retail accounts lean long most of the time, so the level says little. Sharp changes, extremes compared with the last weeks, and high funding together point to crowded positioning, which can unwind fast in either direction.

How often is the data updated? Every hour, from the public APIs of Binance, Bybit, OKX and Hyperliquid. Exchanges define these metrics slightly differently, so compare a venue with its own history first.
